Excel external connections with Google Drive between 2 pc

Me and a colleague have an excel file linked to many CSV source files. Both the excel and CSV files are located on our shared Google Drive which we access locally. The one who creates the excel file (including the CSV connections) can open and refresh the data and sources without any problems. When the other one tries to open the file and refresh the sources, excel states it cannot do it cause it can't find the source files.

I checked the connections and the absolute path of the CSV is referring to my colleague pc (ex c://users/colleague/google drive/folder). Since my path is c://users/myname/google drive/folder it does not find the files.
I checked online and many say excel uses relative path. In my case I would say it doesn't. Any of you has an idea why? Thanks!

We are running both Excel 2016.

Are you opening the file when it has a ~$ in front of the name, or when the other person is viewing the sheet?

No, no $ nor the other has the file open.

Above the message I get, and below the settings of the connection where you can see the folder in which the original source is located (ie the Drive folder) with the name of my colleague. My folder is still Google Drive but int he absolute path my user folder has my name not his name.
