Excel 2016 Compile error on hidden module on start-up

I just installed 2016 Office Professional on a Windows 10. I left Office 2010 on the machine.

Everything seems to be working except Excel opens with a MS Visual Basic Compile error in hidden module: priAccess, Likewise, it closes with the same error box.

I click Help and go to a generic file on the MS website with a vague explanation of the problem that does not seem relevant, or I click Okay and Excel continues to open normally.

This happens whether I open from a shortcut or directly from the program location. All Add-ins are disabled. NO files are opened. But the problem does not occur when I open in safe mode. I have tried disabling my Norton Security software, but that has no effect.

I went to MS support and they wanted to charge me $100 dollars to troubleshoot the problem.

Any suggestion would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Several relevant entries come up when you Google: Excel 2016 Compile error in hidden module on startup

    Consensus seems to be ...

    What Causes This Error?
The most common cause for this error is said to be due to the Microsoft Office Startup folder containing one or two particular add-in template files that are required by Adobe Acrobat PDF Maker, these files are as follows:

    Pdfmaker.xla
    Pdfmaker.dot

Additionally, a software conflict between Microsoft Office and Norton Anti-virus software is also known to cause this error.

Yes, I found those articles. No sign of the Adobe files in my Start-up folder. Not seeing any change when I disable NIS. My compile error occurs in a module called priAccess, which I have found no info on. Thanks for taking the time to make the suggestions.

Did you look on the Symantec web site for any suggestions? May not be enough to disable it. You might need to remove it or upgrade it.

Okay. I fixed it. I cleaned out some old clutter from the c:\user\roaming\Excel folder and the problem is gone!

Thumbs up Re: Excel 2016 Compile error on hidden module on start-up

I had a customer with the exact same issue, except that no file was listed after the error. Whenever she launched Excel, it immediately went to the following error.

“Compile error in hidden module: RegressionForm. This error commonly occurs when code is incompatible with the version, platform, or architecture of this application. Click "Help" for more information on how to correct this error.”

Clicking "Help" only led to a basic definition of the error. She had not chosen a file to open, so there was no file to troubleshoot. We could click “OK” but it came up again, and when we quit Excel, it came up two more times.
    My solution:
I went into Excel’s Options > Add-ins and near the bottom, where it says “Manage” with Excel Add-ins chosen, I clicked “Manage” and disabled each to see if it helped. The one that made the difference was “Smartreg”. Leaving “Smartreg” disabled (unchecked) caused the pesky error to cease.
