NPV formula monthly

If i have 2 monthly 3 year cashflows to compare performance what is the formula for npv applied to each months income ?

I am not familiar with the details and nuances of these financial calculations. I know that Excel has built in PV(), NPV() and XNPV() functions, along with other, related functions (such as IRR() and XIRR()) to handle a variety of present/future value problems. If you can remember the details and main principles of the financial calculation you need, I would expect that one of these built in functions should be helpful in performing the calculation.
