Ctrl Shift Down no longer working correctly

My normal process for selecting a column of data is to click in the top cell, hit Ctrl Shift and the Down arrow to select from top cell to bottom cell.

For the past week I've had an intermittent issue where running through that sequence merely moves my cursor from top cell to bottom cell, NOT selecting the intervening cells.

I looked online and found one suggestion, ensure Scroll Lock is turned off. Mine was, but I then turned it on and then back off. After that, Ctrl Shift Down worked for a few minutes, then quit again.

    Any bright ideas?

Re: Ctrl Shift Down no longer working correctly

I will be interested in what others have to say. I have found that there are a few users on this forum (I think they are all from the Middle East) whose files, when I open them, "break" the shift-ctrl-arrowkey behavior. I can close and reopen Excel to recover my normal behavior. I have wondered if some versions/international settings out there don't don't have or allow that shift-ctrl-arrowkey behavior, and that gets carried over with the workbook. My only suggestion is to see if the loss of this behavior is consistently tied to opening a certain workbook. If so, then you might be able to explore what that workbook is importing into your Excel settings/options that takes away this behavior. (For example, I know that checking the transition navigation under Lotus compatibility changes the behavior of this key combination).

    try this
    n Excel 2007 and Excel 2010-

Click on Office button/File ->Excel Options ->Advanced. Scroll down to "Lotus Compatibility" and uncheck the ‘Transition Navigational Keys’.

All already unchecked; that was the only other solution I found online.

I tried turning on/off Scroll Lock
I tried checking/unchecking "Transition Navigational Keys"
    I rebooted a few times.

NOW I think I've got it fixed. The solution?
Picked up my keyboard and banged it on my desk. A staple fell out. Now Excel is happy again. Go figure.

Odd that keyboards are the one thing that have not really changed in design over the years and still have raised keys with gaps all around. I'd have thought by now we'd have totally sealed keyboards to stop dust, crumbs and staples getting in

Maybe some day. In the meantime I'll just have to remember to bang my keyboard every now and then. HOPEFULLY this solution will help others
