Conditional Formatting on Row based on MAX/MIN cell value in a column

I have a spread sheet I use to keep track of stuff that I update frequently. What I'd like to do is have it automatically format an entire row of data if the value in a certain column is the highest/lowest in that column.

For example:

Date1	Time1	1000	∆Score1	Misc1
Date2	Time2	1500	∆Score2	Misc2
Date3	Time3	218	∆Score3	Misc3
Date4	Time4	9999	∆Score4	Misc4
Date5	Time5	2345	∆Score5	Misc5
Date6	Time6	10	∆Score6	Misc6

What I would like is for the entirety of rows 4 and 6 to be filled green and red respectively, as the values in column C are the highest and lowest respectively. I've done some searching and I think =$C1=MAX($A1:$E6) and =$C1=MIN($A1:$E6) should come into it, but when I try that in conditional formatting it formats rows seemingly at random.

Any help would be appreciated, and sorry if this is an FAQ.

Are you checking if C1 is the max in column C only?
