Question How Do I Stop A Text File Import From Converting to a Date?

    Hello,

I have a text file that I create from a software program (As400). It has many columns that I separate or delete the separation/column bars when importing data from text in Excel. My issue is when one of these columns (Pack Size) comes over Excel converts it to a date. For example some of the pack sizes are 6/48, 9/12 ect.. I tried formatting the cells prior to the import, but the import over rides my format. I tried to import it using delimited verses fixed width, but then I don't have everything separated by columns.

Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks

    Use the IMPORT WIZARD.

The 3rd and final screen of this wizard allows you to select each incoming column individually and define a data type. I'd suggest setting that column to type TEXT.
