Team Generator Kids Soccer - no back to back play

Hello, I'm trying to come up with a Team generator so I can ensure the kids get equal play time but aren't always playing with the same players.
I have 12 kids and they need to be split into teams of 3 players (4 teams A# - D#). They'll be playing 4-5 games per team (3 minutes games), and two teams will be playing at the same time. I also need to make sure that players who have just played are not playing in the next games as they will need a break.

So Team A1 and Team B1 will play for 3 minutes, then Team C1 and D1 will play for 3 minutes.
Then Team A2 and Team B2 will play for 3 minutes with no one from Teams C1 and D1 playing.
Then Team C2 and D2 will play for 3 minutes.
Then Team A3 and Team B3 will play for 3 minutes with no one from Teams C2 and D2 playing.
Then Team C3 and D3 will play for 3 minutes.
Then Team A4 and Team B4 will play for 3 minutes with no one from Teams C3 and D3 playing.
Then Team C4 and D4 will play for 3 minutes.
Then Team A5 and Team B5 will play for 3 minutes with no one from Teams C4 and D4 playing.
Then Team C5 and D5 will play for 3 minutes.

    Thank you for your help!

Re: Team Generator Kids Soccer - no back to back play

For the 'break rule' to actually work, that would mean that there would be two groups of 6 players alternating, with the 6 players from each group being split into two different teams each time they play. Here are the possible ways to split 12 players into 2 groups of 6, and the 6 players into two teams without duplicates:

    Team A < - - > Team B xxxxxx Team C < - - > Team D
    1 2 3 < - - > 4 5 6 xxxxxx 7 8 9 < - - > 10 11 12
    1 2 4 < - - > 3 5 6 xxxxxx 7 8 10 < - - > 9 11 12
    1 2 5 < - - > 3 4 6 xxxxxx 7 8 11 < - - > 9 10 12
    1 2 6 < - - > 3 4 5 xxxxxx 7 8 12 < - - > 9 10 11
    1 3 4 < - - > 2 5 6 xxxxxx 7 9 10 < - - > 8 11 12
    1 3 5 < - - > 2 4 6 xxxxxx 7 9 11 < - - > 8 10 12
    1 3 6 < - - > 2 4 5 xxxxxx 7 9 12 < - - > 8 10 11
    1 4 5 < - - > 2 3 6 xxxxxx 7 10 11 < - - > 8 9 12
    1 4 6 < - - > 2 3 5 xxxxxx 7 10 12 < - - > 8 9 11
    1 5 6 < - - > 2 3 4 xxxxxx 7 11 12 < - - > 8 9 10

An easier system is to randomly split the players into two groups (a bag with 6 red and 6 blue rocks that they choose blindly from) and then each time randomly create the teams (the bag with 3 red and 3 blue rocks).

Or, if you have space, get an assistant coach and randomly split the 12 into 4 teams (a bag with 3 red, 3 blue, 3 green, and 3 yellow rocks) and play both games at the same time, then take a break. The break can be shorter than the games, so your players will have more total playing time that the alternating version that you propose. That was the system that we used when my kids were just starting - by the end of the season, they were far more advanced compared to the teams that sat half the players or played larger sided games: more time, more touches, and stress passing and triangles.

Re: Team Generator Kids Soccer - no back to back play

Thank you Bernie, I like the coloured rock idea, however I do have to account for kids not wanting to play 'this time' or needing shoes tied etc. So I was hoping for some version of excel that I could just plug the values into and if things change on the fly then I can enter that and still have 'fair' play time (as much as possible) for all the kids. Perhaps the 'no back to back' is more a guideline than a rule, so if one goes out I can still substitute.
