    Excel file size blowing up

    Hi!

New to the forum, signed up after having tried to troubleshoot for hours. Hopefully I can return some advice in the future.

So I have an excel file that I have been working on for a while. Now, in one of the sheets I am simply adding two rows (it has around 1000 rows) and after saving it file size increases by 10%, while doing the same change in 6 sheets, it more than doubles.

    - Have tried ctrl + end and there is no additional formatting
    - I am the only user, so its not a shared file.

Any help would be highly appreciated!

    Joe_Swe,

Save As "Binary Workbook" - this should considerably help.

Also, make sure there are no hidden formats on any sheet (including hidden sheets) or objects.

Let me know if this help.

    Thanks

Thanks. There are no hidden formats, sheets or objects so there must be something else. Can try to save as "Binary Workbook" but I kind of got obsessed with understanding the problem :-)

    Joe_Swe,

    Are the rows containing formulas?

If they are and you don't need the formulas to be calculating constantly, then copy all of the data containing formulas, right click on the top left cell you selected and press "Paste Values".

This will reduce the size too.

    Thanks

    LukeGilfoyle,

Yes, the rows have formulas, but even just adding two blank rows causes the problem..

    CK76,

    No pivots, just pure formulas..

Out of interest, how long are the rows? Do they contain formatting, conditional formatting rules?

    Did saving as binary help?

Re: Excel file size blowing up

Rows are 48 colums long. No conditional formating, but they do indeed have simple formats. Although even clearing formats does not solve the problem.

Yes, saving as binary reduced size so I guess thats what I will go with. Frustrating though to not understand the underlying issue =)

This is a lot of information on this from a simple Google search - very common issue with excel files.

If I have helped, please consider adding to my reputation - many thanks
