    All,

    Please see the attached spreadsheet.

I need a formula for cell G4 that can be copied down the blue column.

Briefly, the formula needs to calculate a revised priority number for each project such that:

-- every project has a revised priority number that matches the priority number of the highest priority project that depends on it
-- but only so long as the revised priority number indicates a higher priority than the originally assigned priority number (i.e. is a boost in priority)
-- thus, if only lower priority projects depend on a given project, its priority remains unchanged (i.e., revised priority number = assigned priority number)

Please read the red text in the attached worksheet as it mentions 2 conditions that should make this challenge easier. Let me know if you have questions or if you spot a data or logical error.

    Thanks to you all!

Re: Revise project priority number if higher priority project depends on it -- brain stump

Your red text states that you provide a list of dependents, but what you included are PRECEDENTS. You're trying to backtrack from that to a list of direct AND indirect dependencies? I seriously doubt it's doable in a single formula--but I'm willing to be proven wrong.

Yes, I struggled with the language.

I don't think that I'm looking to backtrack anything because the direct and indirect dependencies/precedents/prereqs for every project are listed in the data table.

What I'm looking to do is analyze that data and determine a revised priority number per the original post.

    Thanks!
