i am trying to use the =if formula to automatically update a cell

for example =if(i4="1","25") is the formula i am using but it keeps coming up as false?

You're comparing Strings ("1") not Values (1) and you have not provided the alternative if I4 <> 1 (or "1") so it takes a value of False by default.

=IF(I4 = 1, 25, "Something Else")

If you are dealing with numerical values you do not need to put quotes around them. Try it like this:

=if(i4=1,25,other_value_in_here)

You will need to specify what you want to happen if I4 is not equal to 1.
