This formula works perfectly if the corresponding workbook is open, but returns #Value! when closed. but I need it to pull the data when closed.
Could this formula be written some other way to achieve this ?

You will need to remove the INDIRECT() reference, that does not work on closed workbooks.
Try adjusting the formula to simply use a different way of filling in that value...hardcode a specific number of rows, perhaps.

it seems I'm a bit stuck now, I don't know how to replace Indirect()....
A non-formulaic description of what you're trying to lookup might help me suggest something.
