Highlight in Bold the Date section of a cell containing custom time stamp format

    Hi,

I have a column having timestamp of format "yyyy-mm-dd hh:mm:ss" and I would like to highlight the date part "yyyy-mm-dd" in bold. Is there a way to do it ?

when I select the date part of the cell and bold button, when I move to another cell the highlighting is not retained.

    Thanks
    Zulfi

If the cell is formatted as text and the cell content is text, then you can format the date with bold and the time without.

    either A

    or B:

Re: Highlight in Bold the Date section of a cell containing custom time stamp format

What you need to understand about dates and times in excel is…

a date is just a number representing the number of days passed since 1/1/900...and then formatted in a way that we recognize as a date. So, for instance, today (Tue 23 May 2017) is actually 42878

So, assuming your date/time really is date/time, and not text, while you may see 5/23/2017 2:48 displayed in both the cell and formula bar, what excel actually sees is 42878.11765. And from that you can see that there is no actual date shown, and therefor no date to "bold"
