    Conditional formatting by column

Is there a way to use the column() function in conditional formatting?

What I'm trying to do is make it so some of the cells will turn a certain color based on what the column number is. From the couple of tests I tried with trying to get the column() function to work in the custom conditional formatting equation box it wasn't working and instead giving me the error of asking if I was trying to post a formula or something.

If there isn't a way to do it with conditional formatting is there an easy way to do it with macros?

More specifically what I'm trying to do is get it to format if a cell will be black or not based on the sum of a selection of other cells which I want to be able to change.

    Thanks,

    Ethan

It should work. I just tried a test with =COLUMN()=15 and it colored a cell on column O

Yeah I was just able to get it to work now. I don't know if maybe is the order of my > and = symbols or if there was something else I was missing in my formula.
