Post HELP - Shift Cashflows According to Start Year

    Excel.JPG

I am trying to make a table where I can change the start year of a certain project and the cash flows are applied from that new start year. In the attached image I am looking for a formula in cell (D7) that will apply the cash flow for project 1 in row 3 to row 7 starting from whatever year is entered into cell (C7). I have tried OFFSET/INDEX and cannot get either to work.

    Any help much appreciated thanks.

    Welcome to the forum!

Will you please attach a sample Excel workbook? We are not able to work with or manipulate a picture of one.

    1. Make sure that your sample data are REPRESENTATIVE of your real data. The use of unrepresentative data is very frustrating and can lead to long delays in reaching a solution.

    2. Make sure that your desired solution is also shown (mock up the results manually).

    3. Make sure that all confidential data is removed or replaced with dummy data first (e.g. names, addresses, E-mails, etc.).

    4. Try to avoid using merged cells as they cause lots of problems.

Unfortunately the attachment icon doesn't work at the moment, so to attach an Excel file you have to do the following: just before posting, scroll down to Go Advanced and then scroll down to Manage Attachments. Now follow the instructions at the top of that screen.

Please pay particular attention to point 2 (above): without an idea of your intended outcomes, it is often very difficult to offer appropriate advice.

Re: HELP - Shift Cashflows According to Start Year

    Hi Ali

I have attached my sample excel workbook.
Pretty much by changing either cell (C11) or (C12) I would like the projects cash flow in rows 4 and 5 to be applied starting at the new start year (C11/C12). I have included mock answers of what I am trying to achieve in the Mock Answers Table and included a Blank Table where the formula can be entered.

    Cheers

Select cell D18, paste the following formula into the formula bar, press enter then copy over and down to M19:

This gives the same results but uses Index/Match/Match as opposed to Indirect:
    Formula: copy to clipboard
