Excel Started to format money in a different way than I asked for.

Hi,

I have had a spreadsheet that I have used for years, and I have a number of sheets within, and they are all based on money, and calculations.

Without exception, I always set the column format using Currency --> -£1234.10 (red selected - bottom one)

Over the last 2 days, when I open the sheet, I have now noticed that the money figures are red and contained in brackets, and when I highlight the cell/column and look at format cells, I now see that this format has changed to the following:

Custom £# ##0.00_);Red(£# ##0.00)

So, I have no idea how or why Excel has done this, and more annoyingly, without consulting me.

I have around 15 sheet within this spreadsheet and it is incredibly annoying that Excel can just randomly decide to do this.

I looked at turning Automatic off, from Formulas, but this did not solve the problem.

Can anybody help to resolve this please?

try:
Cell Styles - Normal (right click) - Modify - Format - Number - Custom (set your favorite format) - Ok, Ok.
but it will set all cells to this format
so IMHO better is:
Cell Styles - Normal (right click) - Modify - Format - Number - General - Ok, Ok.
and set currency via custom format only these columns what you need

repeat for all sheets

Description is not clear

Edit: Delete all not default styles

Sadly, after doing that, I saved the sheet, reopened it, and it went back to the way I do not want.

I am thinking that perhaps one day Microsoft will actually do mind control so that everybody works to their rule...

if it is not something with sensitive data, could you attach this file? or with a few false data.

btw. is this happening with every new one?
