    Assisted Ordering/Sales Forecasting

    Hi all,

I was wondering if anyone has had experience using excel either through formulas or a macro to forecast sales so that we are able to assists our stores in ordering the right quantity. We are a small organization and thus need to build this internally rather than purchasing software that would do this for us. Essentially we will look at items over a 4 week period and attribute a certain percentage of the each week to the average. For example Week 1 would be the most recent and account for 50% of sales, Week 2 would account for 25% and so forth. I wanted to know what thoughts were on this method or if anyone had any other insight into this.

Thanks for your help. I will post an attachment once I thought I get some feedback to see how I could construct something like this.

The calculation definitely seems possible with a formula, but it's hard to say with certainty without being able to view a sample workbook. If you've tested the forecasting accuracy of that approach and you're satisfied with its predictive power, then post a sample workbook (Use: Go Advanced --> Manage Attachments) with sample data and expected results and we should be able to help put the formula together.

Thanks for the response, before I build out this forecasting model in excel I wanted to get some input on determining if the approach we are using would be correct or if we should do it another way?

    Thanks again for your help!
