    Compare and Merge Workbooks Function

Alrighty, I'm back with another question. I'll save some time here by explaining that yes, this is a homework related question. As always, tutoring tips, hints, or whatever you may have to offer as a helping hand, are appreciated in guiding me towards the right direction.

I am currently working on an assignment that requires me to compare and merge workbooks. Now, I understand that the purpose of this function is to allow mulitple users to compare/share workbooks all while making changes to it. Problem with my assignment is, I'm the only user. I'm to download three files. One I am to save myself as the user and work mainly out of that file. There are two other files titled "Atlanta" and "Dallas" which I am to compare and merge with my original file I saved under my name.

I've tried saving them as copies under the same folder as my original file, but each time I try to perform the Compare and Merge function I get a pop-up explaining "Atlanta file cannot be merged into current workbook. Workbooks must be copies made from the same shared workbook, and must all maintain the change history for a sufficient amount of time."

Ive enabled sharing for all of the files. I've changed the change history time frame to be equal amongst all files. But I'm still unable to compare and merge.

How would one go about making the proper changes to the Atlanta and Dallas files in order to successfully complete a Compare and Merge files request?

    Thank you for your time.

Just based on what the error message is saying: Are Atlanta and Dallas copies of the shared workbook you are trying to merge?
One spreadsheet to rule them all. One spreadsheet to find them. One spreadsheet to bring them all and at corporate, bind them.

A picture is worth a thousand words, but a sample spreadsheet is more likely to be worked on.

They appear as the same layout as the original document. Some areas have different information. I suppose when I merge the documents together with the original one, the information will merge together as well?
