Question Windows vs. excel date format

    Good afternoon all,

I’m actually afraid this is not a purely excel question, but I’m so desperate right know that I need to try to ask you this.

So, I’ve an excel tool that I’ve built and use in my office and that provides me the date found within a separate file’s name. Pretty simple.
The filename will include "yyyy-mm-dd". This is captured with VBA and converted to a cell to a slightly different format using the formula
    Formula: copy to clipboard

(I actually need the month’s name rather than the number). Everything was working just fine.
This is until the IT company changed my laptop from a windows 7 to a windows 10. Now the result is a completely mess and I can’t understand why. Things like "13 jul thu" are happening...
I´ve tried a couple changes in the windows time and date, even manually changing the format to the same used in excel (dd mmm aaa) but with no success. Please see images attached.

Do someone knows what is going on with this windows vs excel dates? Or what am I doing wrong? I’m going nuts

    Thank you in advance.

If you are using TEXT, the result has absolutely nothing to do with Windows date configuration. "13 Jul Thu" is exactly the result you should get with =TEXT(K2;" dd mmm aaa"). "a" is not a defined format character and seems to be interpreted as a "d". The one missing piece of information is what you want it to look like?

    Hi,
I'm sorry, I forgot to mention this is in Portuguese. "A" stands for "ano", which means year. Languages apart, y=a.
Also, in win 7 this works perfectly.

    Thank you.

I do not have experience with Windows and Excel configured for other languages. If you go to Windows -> Settings -> Time & Language -> Region & Language, do you have Portuguese configured as the first language?

    Hi,

It's been some time since I've raised this question but I finally have an answer.
This is easily solved by applying Method 2 from this thread: https://superuser.com/questions/7303...erns-in-formul

Thank you for those who've tried
