Using "index", "match", "min", "abs", to find the closest value in multiple criteria

    Hi Guys,

I've been having a hard time to create a formula to make this easy,
I just want to get the Closest or Nearest Actual time of our trucks to the shops, vs their Approved target time in the shops.

I've been using =Index,Match,Min,Abs for this but it seems like it works only for a single criteria.
In my case, I have 3 criteria to match in 1.

Lets say that in column A is Shop Name, column B is Approved Time, & column C is their Actual Time at the shop, and I need to get what is the nearest actual time per shops vs in their target from July 14-21, 2017
and this is my search value: in column D is Shop Name, (same in Column A), column E is Approve Time (same in Column B), & column F is the nearest actual time that I need to compare to (column C).

Hope you can help me with this.

    thank you, very much.

Re: Using "index", "match", "min", "abs", to find the closest value in multiple criteria

Will you please attach a sample Excel workbook?

    1. Make sure that your sample data are REPRESENTATIVE of your real data. The use of unrepresentative data is very frustrating and can lead to long delays in reaching a solution.

    2. Make sure that your desired solution is also shown (mock up the results manually).

    3. Make sure that all confidential data is removed or replaced with dummy data first (e.g. names, addresses, E-mails, etc.).

    4. Try to avoid using merged cells as they cause lots of problems.

Unfortunately the attachment icon doesn't work at the moment, so to attach an Excel file you have to do the following: just before posting, scroll down to Go Advanced and then scroll down to Manage Attachments. Now follow the instructions at the top of that screen.

Please pay particular attention to point 2 (above): without an idea of your intended outcomes, it is often very difficult to offer appropriate advice.

    Here is the attached file,

    Answer in Manual:

Let's Say that in column A shop name MD LEE PLAZA has approved time of 12pm, so the nearest actual time should be 12:15pm

    thank you.
