Make Excel 2016 default to the File tab rather than the Home tab when 1st opened

I just upgraded from Office 2013 to Office 2016 and noticed the Home tab is opened by default whenever I open Excel.

How do I make Excel default to the File tab rather than the Home tab? Please don't confuse the question as Google does; every time I attempt a search for an answer, Google thinks I'm trying to make the Home tab the default for some reason.

Hopefully someone here knows the answer as I didn't see an option to change under Excel Options.

    Thank you
    Mike

It can't be done. You can customize the Ribbon to move any tab into the first position, and that will be the default tab when you open Excel. But the FILE tab is not a tab in the Ribbon, it's more like a separate window. You can't change its position or customize it. I don't think you can do it even with a macro.

That's crazy! Not everyone opens Excel to create or work on a new workbook. Like me, I like to work with the many workbooks I have already created, and that I have pinned in the File tab. Curious if you know of an alternative or could suggest another way to achieve what I'm looking for -- please don't say go back to 2013

If I open Excel it doesn't open the Home tab, but a window with recent and pinned files on the left side and a bunch of templates on the right side.
It's not the File tab, but it seems to be what you're looking for.

You can set this in the Options page at General -> Startup Options

Oh thank you! I remember disabling that option because for some reason I read it as show the "splash screen" rather than show the "start screen". The File tab reminded me of the start screen I had been using in 2013, so I assumed I needed to make it load by default.

    Wow, thank you again!

Also, if you have Windows 10 and you have Excel pinned to the task bar, you can right-click on the Excel icon and get a list of pinned and recent files before you even open Excel, and click directly on one of those to open it.

Good suggestion. I have this option set myself, but I took Modify_inc quite literally.
