Excel files have become read-only, but properties show no check marks.

    Hi,
Today when I opened my excel files I found them all to be read-only. How the hell had that happened? I didn't set anything to cause that, as for as I know. I immediately right-clicked on the files when I closed them to get to their "properties" to see if the read-only boxes of these files had check marks. But no, their check boxes showed no check marks. So could anybody please tell me what happened and how to correct this?

    My excel version is 2010

    Thanks for your time.

Are you opening the files via a network?

No, just on my PC. I've also tried restoring my files, but that does nothing either.

    Maybe this will help:

It's about Word documents, but the principle would be the same.

Unfortunately, it hasn't made any difference.

If you Google you might find other things to try.

In frustration, I reloaded the Excel application. Now everything works fine once again.

You mean you reinstalled it? Glad it's sorted, but I didn't suggest that as I assumed that you had already tried it. Sorry!
