Print area does not work in Excel 2016

It wants to leave off a column on the end and print that column only for 20 more pages.

Then after working on it for a while and clearing and setting print area 10 times or so it wants to print only two columns for 20 pages and then the rest on the next 20 pages.

I can't remove the dotted lines after columns B and G. Maybe that's the problem but if you can't fix this with print area it's confusing.

    Shouldn't this be easy?

If you have dotted lines it means that your content doesn't fit on one page wide. That has nothing to do with what print area you set.

There are three ways to fix this, best first:

    1. Go to Page Layout, Page Setup and click Fit to 1 pages wide [blank] pages tall
    2. Adjust the widths of your columns to fit on one page, inside the dotted lines
    3. Make your margins narrower so everything fits on one page

I don't see a "fit to" under this menu the way you said it

All my columns fit on one page and shouldn't excel know that anyway?

I don't think there is any problem with the width.

Where did those dotted lines come from, and how could I get rid of them?

In any case why doesn't this program just not print a last column at the end and waste 20 pages? The context that you are printing in has no effect on the program. It just does what it wants to?

Or in the other problem why would it decide to cut at the dotted line after not doing that before? And then printing it all out of context, and worthless, after it does that. Do people consider this a user friendly program still?

I see in print preview you can fit all columns to 1 page. But it says it's shrinking them.
