Help with INDEX / MATCH for data retrieval?

    Hi All

Looking to pull some information from one sheet to another in a workbook when a certain criteria is met. Spread sheet attached below.

In the ALL tab, where TFR is entered in column A, I need the information in columns B C & AC to pull into the next available row, from row 3 onward, in the TRANSFERS tab. I have tried playing about with Index & Match but haven't managed to get anywhere. Can anyone help?

    Thanks.

I can see you have got nowhere - you haven't even managed to manually add your expected outcomes so that we have some sort of clue what you are looking for! We aren't mind readers, I'm afraid.

Sorry I deleted a lot of the data as it's sensitive, if that's what you mean?
I have added an example back in.
Basically everyone in ALL who has TFR in column A I want their name (Column B & C) and their start date (column AC) to pull through to columns A, B & C in the TRANSFERS tab.

Use this array formula in A3, copied down:

    =IFERROR(INDEX(ALL!B:B,SMALL(IF(ALL!$A$3:$A$528="TFR",ROW(ALL!$A$3:$A$528)),ROWS(A$3:A3))),"")

Array Formulae are a little different from ordinary formulae in that they MUST be confirmed in the FIRST CELL ONLY by pressing CTRL+SHIFT+ENTER to activate the array, not just ENTER. After that, the array can be dragged down as normal, to cover the desired range.

You will know the array is active when you see curly brackets { } - or "curly braces" for those of you in the USA, or "flower brackets" for those of you in India - appear around the outside of your formula. If you do not use CTRL+SHIFT+ENTER you will (almost always) get an error message or an incorrect answer. Press F2 on that cell and try again.

Don't type the curly brackets yourself - it won't work...

Copy across to the enxt two columns, but adust the ranges in the 3rd to AC...

    Thanks! Exactly what I needed.
Just out of curiosity in trying to understand the formula for future, what does the 'SMALL' refer to?

red - return values from this column
Cyan Identify rows which contain TFR in column A
Orange - and return the row number
red - and then return values from this column
Blue, stating from the smallest row number upwards.

    You're welcome.
