    Conditional Formatting

    Excel Gurus of the World,

I have an inquiry about excel conditional formatting.

I have a spreadsheet with about 30 Columns and 300 Rows. Column 31 contains the average for each row.

What I am trying to do is in this example is if cells in row 2 are above the average for row 2 in column 31, then change color of cell to red with red text.

I was going row by row because each row had a different average. Is there a quicker way than the way I am doing it?

    -Thank You!

    Re: Conditional Formatting

Highlight the entire range to which you want to apply the conditional formatting (A2:ADx) an use a formula =a2<$AE2 - and apply the formatting.

The key to success with conditional formatting is to be aware of absolute and relative referencing.
One spreadsheet to rule them all. One spreadsheet to find them. One spreadsheet to bring them all and at corporate, bind them.

A picture is worth a thousand words, but a sample spreadsheet is more likely to be worked on.

    Re: Conditional Formatting

Please refer to the attached workbook for a small example of how to do this.

    Highlight A2:C4 > Home > Conditional Formatting > New Rule > Use a formula

    =A2>$D2

Format: However you'd like > OK > OK
