Sorry, don't think I was clear - I have data in a cell like this:
109-J30 LogBook
109-J41 LogBook
109-J42
1st Introduction of Best By 2nd
I need to replace that data with an X.
Just type an X in that cell? ... and hit Enter.

It's a 1000+ row spreadsheet. I'm trying not to have to do it manually
and not every cell has something in it.
To attach a file to your post,
- be sure to desensitize the data
- click “Go Advanced” (next to Post Quick Reply – bottom right),
- scroll down until you see “Manage Attachments”, click that,
- click “Browse”.
- select your file(s)
- click “Upload”
- click “Close window”
- click “Submit Reply”
The file name will appear at the bottom of your reply.
I don't think your second post clarified things much but I'm going to take a guess that what you want is, if something is in the cell replace it with X, otherwise leave alone.
so here goes using a helper column. In cell beside where the information is, =IF(LEN(A2)>0,"X","") then copy down. Next, copy the column with the formula and then go to the column you want to replace and use paste special values and all the stuff you wanted replaced will be replaced.
