Unhappy How to prevent cell formatting from being copied to adjacent cells

    The issue is as follows:
I am entering dates in column A. In the subsequent columns B, C,...etc., I enter numbers.
I enter the date in cell A1 (formatted as a custom date format), hit tab to move to the next cell B1 (formatted as general), enter the number and hit tab again. Lo! the number in B1 becomes a date. The same happens to C1 also.
Every time I have to manually change the format of the cell to number.

I tried to correct this by selecting column B, C,... and format as general. However, the problem recurs when I enter the data for the next row.

    Really frustrating!

I would be extremely thankful to anybody who can help me out!

Re: How to prevent cell formatting from being copied to adjacent cells

    Hi Bradex,

I've had this kind of problem before too. I'm not sure what the solution is, but I noticed it happened only when I inserted a column to the right of my column with the custom date format. Is this the case for your problem? I found that if I inserted a column elsewhere and moved it next to where I needed it, the problem went away. I hope this helps!

    Hi Tulips and Roses,

    Thanks for the comment!

I don't remember inserting the column. It is more likely that I formatted an existing column, after which the issue started occurring.

I shall remember your suggestion next time. However, now that it has started occurring what can I do to solve it?

I tried moving the custom format column elsewhere, following which the other columns started behaving normally. However, if I move the custom format column back to its original location, the problem recurs in the other columns.

    Regards,
    Bradex
