Angry Selection frame disappears in few seconds

I have a nagging problem in my Office for Mac 2016, would appreciate your help. When I select a group of cells it toggles the dashed line frame around it to indicate it is being selected. But in two seconds the frame turns back to normal and I can no longer paste. That is extremely inconvenient, as it makes me rush to paste before the frame is turned off . Ideas?

No idea on a Mac, but I have had this problem with Windows - it was another program interrupting - it seemed to make Excel lose concentration.

Thanks, this gives me something to work with. Any memory, what that interrupting program was?

It was Firefox or more likely (in my opinion - but I have zero proof!) a Firefox add-on
After a lot of frustration trying to solve the puzzle , it went away by fluke when I upgraded Firefox to a new version which disabled all the old add-ons

I have a similar problem today which I have not yet had time to sort out
    - on recently acquired laptop running Windows 10 (was on Windows7 -so still learning!)
    - and annnoyingly when I am in the VBA editor I am occasionally unceremoniously thrown back into Excel - Excel is stealing the focus from VBA

Funnily enough that behaviour happened months ago on my old PC too - but I was convinced that was when an Excel table was being updated automatically in the background. But that cannot explain current issue - that file has been consigned to the archive

I don't know if this is an issue on Mac or not.

    Do you have 'DropBox'?

The descriptions here are not exactly the same. Are they similar enough to consider?
