    list in old version 2003

As this will be a large project I thought i would ask you experts how best to do it so i do not have to do it twice!
measure twice - cut once sorta thing.

We wish to know what pictures we took on each date. like a diary

i.e. dec 20 2003 visited the santa barbara mission. or indeed any mission.or had an operation or whatever.

so i can say when did we have an operation or when did we visit a mission, car museum or any museum etc. and get the date to see the images.

i wont need more rows than a spreadsheet so i assume LIST will do it but how do i set it up, how many fields per day etc. we might do several things in a day

    thanks for your help

Will you please attach a SMALL sample Excel workbook (10-20 rows of data is usually enough)? Please don't attach a picture of one (no-one will want to re-type all your stuff before starting).

    1. Make sure that your sample data are truly REPRESENTATIVE of your real data. The use of unrepresentative data is very frustrating and can lead to long delays in reaching a solution.

    2. Make sure that your desired solution is also shown (mock up the results manually).

    3. Make sure that all confidential information is removed first!!

    4. Try to avoid using merged cells. They cause lots of problems!

Unfortunately the attachment icon doesn't work at the moment. So, to attach an Excel file you have to do the following: Just before posting, scroll down to Go Advanced and then scroll down to Manage Attachments. Now follow the instructions at the top of that screen.

I couldn't understand the issue. It seems that you want dynamic range, for this you can use offset function

    Please attach worksheet.

Re: list in old version 2003

thanks but there is nothing to attach.
i need suggestions BEFORE i create it on HOW to create it!

basically it will be like a diary. dates with activities.
i need to be able to ask excel what we were doing that day.

and when did we take pictures of ANY say museum

and when did we take pictures of say the san diego museum of man.

so we would ask it the question and excel would provide the date.

we might see several things in a day.

    hopefully this helps.

I am sure it is simple.

    thanks

I have a working sample here that you select a dropdown item, and the picture changes accordingly.
    Just to get some ideas

It would all have to do with how you set it up., then it could appear to look simple. If you have tons of pictures, you may have to consider, having them in separate folders, depending on category and date, then bringing them up with vba

Re: list in old version 2003

we have pictures digitally stored since digital cameras were first popular.

windows can find them by date.
so we need to be able to ask what were the dates we say went to a museum. best leave room for 100 dates as a result
    thanks
creating the spreadsheet for all this data has to be done right first time- we do not want to do it twice!

Re: list in old version 2003

Here is one idea,I have made an additional worksheet, select the item from the dropdown in B2 and the code will get the items from the Pictures worksheet.

The code is in the worksheet module.

HOW do i adjust it to ignore upper or lower text e.g. museum found nothing.
    looks great!
is it okay with dates with no other field filled? idle days!
    thanks

So then it did ignore it? or do you mean you don't want it to ignore UPPER or lower cases?

    Is what okay with dates?

it ignored the lower case museum found MUSEUM

if there are dates with nothing yet in the activities etc - will that cause a problem.

    thanks

This will work for whatever case you use,
I changed the code to go up column B, in case you have blank dates in column A

to make another one just for WHERE would that be simple?
i realise that combining them would just lead to problems, but a get where would be very useful
