Changing color of line chart with source data

    Hello Everyone,

I have a source data which is conditionally formatted. And I am creating a line chart based on that data. Is it possible to get the color of line chart same as the color of the source data ?

    Thanks

Re: Changing color of line chart with source data

Will you please attach a SMALL sample Excel workbook (10-20 rows of data is usually enough)? Please don't attach a picture of one (no-one will want to re-type all your stuff before starting).

    1. Make sure that your sample data are truly REPRESENTATIVE of your real data. The use of unrepresentative data is very frustrating and can lead to long delays in reaching a solution.

    2. Make sure that your desired solution is also shown (mock up the results manually).

    3. Make sure that all confidential information is removed first!!

    4. Try to avoid using merged cells. They cause lots of problems!

Unfortunately the attachment icon doesn't work at the moment. So, to attach an Excel file you have to do the following: Just before posting, scroll down to Go Advanced and then scroll down to Manage Attachments. Now follow the instructions at the top of that screen.

Re: Changing color of line chart with source data

You can accomplish this to a degree. It depends how many colors your conditions use (or at least it affects how feasible it is to do).

Generally this would be done by using your data as the base for another sheet where you stagger your data based on your conditions. Essentially changing what series a line is part of based on its value, so that the color for that series is applied "conditionally" base don its value.

I have attached a file with many chart samples for many things unrelated to your question. It does have a couple sheets dealing with conditional series. I think my samples are column charts, you may be able to retool it to your needs. The sheets you likely would be interested in start with "Conditional" or "CS" in the sheet name.

If you can upload a sample more specific to your needs we can try to address your question more specifically.

    Hope this helps
