Function dependant on contents of another cell

    Hi guys,

So I have a timetable which my team completes monthly. Some of the tasks only have to be completed quarterly, so I want the Status column (column E) to automatically say 'Not Required' on all months which are NOT our quarterly months.
So the months they would not be required are February, March, May, June, August, September, November and December. The current month is populated in cell A1.

So I guess I'm looking to include a formula somewhere, ideally not in Column E, which says if A1="February" then E5="Not Required","")

(I should point out I've successfully used a nested IF formula actually in the Status cell, but I really want the formula somewhere it won't be touched, which points to a range or something as the status column is really for people to type in so the formula might get messed up)

    Any ideas?

    Jem :-)

Re: Function dependant on contents of another cell

Hi Paul, the above formula seems to populate the cell it's in with the contents of cell A1. Also, I'm looking to direct the "Not Required" into a different cell...

I realise I've omitted some important information. Column D would has 'Qtrly only' if that row contains a quarterly task.

So in an ideal world, I'd have a hidden formula in a different column that people wouldn't see that says IF(AND($A$1="February",(D5="Qtrly only"),"E5="Not Required")

However when I try that it doesn't work because I'm trying to put the 'Not required' in a cell the formula isn't in. If I take the E5= out, it's fine.

The only way I can think about it is to link the cells, Like, use your formula in H2 for example
Please Login or Register to view this content.
, drop down the formula to your last row. Then in E2
Please Login or Register to view this content.
, drop down, and copy paste as values afterwards. This is what I would do.

If it doesn't suit you, maybe someone has a better solution.

    Cheers,
    Paul
