    Hiding costs in cells

    Hi,

Is there a way I can hide all the prices on the stock list from certain users without creating and linking a separate sheet?

Any help would be much appreciated.

    Thanks,

    Hi CPAC,

You could try to make the font white and the background white also. This fools only the beginner user of Excel. You can also Hide a Sheet which might fool a few more users. Why don't you try both. You can also password protect a workbook which can be broken by advanced Excel users. Bottom line - I don't think there is a sure method to hide information that is in a workbook.

Just thought of another method. If you create a VLookup into a Table and then make that table a Static Table in the Names Manager, it is hard to find the data, but once again it can be found by advanced users.
One test is worth a thousand opinions.

to add to MarvinP's post, there is also a function to hide a worksheet called very hide, you go to the developer tab and select properties then in the box at the bottom across from visible you select 2 - xlSheetVeryHidden and it will disappear AND will NOT be visible to anyone unless they know about it. A couple caveats, it can only be unhidden with a macro and you better know or note somewhere the name of the tab as that is needed in the macro.
Here is a sample macro for it...
    HTML Code:
where "sheet to very hide" is where you put the name of the tab you hid.
Another caveat is that if there are any formulas in the rest of the workbook that refer to the very hidden sheet, if someone who knows the macro can see the tab name in the formula they might be able to figure it out and unhide it.

Keep in mind that no matter what you do, if the user knows what they are doing, it is almost impossible to hide/protect anything in excel
    1. Use code tags for VBA. [code] Your Code [/code] (or use the # button)
