    Saving worksheet with new name

Perhaps I'm missing something basic here but I'm pretty sure the following behaviour of Excel 365 did not occur in my old Excel 2000.

I open worksheet X, edit it, and save it as Y. But why does X then close? I want to edit X many times, each time getting a new worksheet. How do I avoid re-opening X after every save please?

On a different but associated point, am I mistaken in thinking there was once a Revert command in Excel's File menu? IOW, it would let you ignore all the editing you'd done since opening that file.

    I think it's designed behaviour.

From what I can tell there's no option setting you can adjust.
You will likely need vba to achieve what you are looking for.

Or instead, just use VBA .SaveCopyAs (See comment section in above).

I assumed that you meant workbook x and y, instead of worksheet.

As for your second question... if you close the workbook without saving, does it not lose all edit after open (unless you saved during the process).
If you use Windows Backup. By using Properties window on the file, you can restore from previous (though it's from restore points and not from file open).

You can use code to saveas a copy, I am not sure how it is done manually.

    Formula: copy to clipboard
