Barcode gets created with an extra space when importing from Excel

    Hello,

I am creating price ticket labels for items for my boutique using the Dymo Label printer 450.
On these price tickets, I have added a barcode and I am using the importing function from Excel
    to populate the data.

So in Excel, I have added a column with numbers that will represent the Item #
and when the Dymo Label uses that column to create the barcode, it is creating it
with a space, which is therefore, creating a larger barcode than needed.

Any idea on why this is occurring?

I am importing an XLSX file and the column is formatted as a number field at 0 decimals -

Is my format wrong? Should I be importing using a CSV format file?

Any help would be much appreciated.

    Thanks

Where is the space in the number format located? Can you post some examples of the imported data?

    I've added a sample.
The first row is ignored and the first column is used to create the barcode.

The space is added to the end of the barcode.
So as per my example, it would create a barcode for the #1 and a space

I'm not sure if you meant for this to happen, but the Product ID column has a value of 1 for every row. Is this the case; or should there be differing Product IDs for the different products?

It's normal - it's because I need four tickets for the same item.

Maybe try formatting all the cells as General instead of Text. Otherwise, possibly importing the data as CSV may fix this...I know that when I work with LabVIEW equipment I have to import the raw data as CSV to format, otherwise I get (seemingly) random errors as well.

I'm going to try the CSV option because I had tried changing the format of the field to almost everything, right justifying the number, etc.

    Thanks

Hey, I had the same problem and found this thread via Google. Sorry for necroing an older thread, but I thought I should post the solution here in case other people have the same issue and find this thread via Google.

The source of this problem is Dymo's software, Dymo Label v.8. When you use the "Import and print" function under the file menu you have to choose a data source, and then drag the respective columns from the data source onto the label layout. The Dymo software then attempts to be "smart" or "user friendly" by adding a default space (in the form of a blue dot) behind every column you drag and drop onto the fields in the label's layout. The software also adds this blue dot (the space) when you drag and drop a column onto a barcode field, and if you're not observant (or think about the significance of the blue dot) it will by default add a blank space in every.single.barcode it generates. The end results can be catastrophic, maybe you print out 500 labels from a data source with these settings, and every single one of those barcodes are then useless because they contain an extra blank space behind the numbers. Hopeless software by Dymo in my opinon. Sigh.

Hope this can help someone out there.

    Hiya Rela,

We appreciate your feedback in regards to how the software functions with the 'import data and print' option and you are bringing up some very valid concerns.
It has been forwarded to our developers for investigation and it is possible a change will come in the future to remove this part of the function or to make it optional.
However at this time I do not have any exact information as to what might be done but I can confirm it is being taken seriously.

I would also like to confirm that the information provided by Rela is correct and if you experience the same problem as many in this thread the solution provided should help you out.

If you still experience issues you are very welcome to contact us directly and of course we do accept feedback for all parts of our products as well.

    Good Call. Spot on!

Removing the blue dot for the barcode field in dymo V8 worked!
