INDEX MATCH across multiple sheet returning error

There are two sheets named MASTER1 and MASTER2. Code is entered in each sheet from B2 to B5000. Description of item is entered in each sheet from C2 to C5000.

There is an output sheet where an item is looked up in two master sheets based on the code entered. When a code in any of the sheet is entered, it gives correct description. I used the following formula

But, in the case of value of a code not present, “N/A” error occurs. I tried modifying the code as follows, but it is not accepting. Any help in spotting the error in the code will be appreciated

The formula works as desired. As a follow-up to this question, suppose if the master sheets are many in number, whether we have to include each INDEX- MATCH pair with this formula or is there any method to simplify the code.

Could you give a simplified syntax wherein sheet names start from A and run to G, and are with codes and description? The OUTPUT sheet has to display the output depending upon the code entered?

Note: In Sheet A to G, the code is in Col. A and description is in Col. B.

To best describe or illustrate your problem you would be better off attaching a dummy workbook. The workbook should contain the same structure and some dummy data of the same type as the type you have in your real workbook - so, if a cell contains numbers & letters in this format abc-123 then that should be reflected in the dummy workbook.

To attach a file to your post,
click advanced (next to quick post),
scroll down until you see "manage file",
click that and select "add files" (top right corner).
click "select files" find your file, click "open" click "upload" click 'done" bottom right. click "submit reply"

Once the upload is completed the file name will appear below the input boxes in this window.
You can then close the window to return to the new post screen.
1. Use code tags for VBA.
Your Code
(or use the # button)
2. If your question is resolved, mark it SOLVED using the thread tools
3. Click on the star if you think someone helped you
