Unhappy Workbook prints with hundreds of blank pages

I am attempting to print a workbook with 250 worksheets. It is printing the data rows on page 1 followed by hundreds of blank lines, then the data rows on page 2 followed by hundreds of blank lines, etc. Any idea of what is going on and how to fix this?

Many of these ws have only a few rows of data. Each one is different.

Sounds like either you have lots of dead space either beside or below the data you wish to print or your print area needs adjusting.

For the first one go the the far right of your data then select all blank columns after that and delete them. Then go to the bottom of your data and highlight all blank rows after that and delete those too. Save the workbook and see if that helps.

For the second one, clear the print area and reset it to cover juts the data you wish to print.

If you really have 250 worksheets in your workbook then this could prove a long winded solution!!!

    Hope that helps.

Try to set print area in each sheets by selecting the range you want to print.

Thanks anyway. I am looking for a method that does not involve that much work.

    Here

Fixing this issue will require some manual corrections. There are 2 things at play here likely causing the issue.

    1) Excess cells on sheets
    2) Bad print areas

There is NO automated way to fix excess cells. Excess cells are cells in which Excel thinks there is content but we as people do not. The tell tale sign of this is when Excel thinks your used range is way beyond the range of cells you have data in. You can see this visually on a sheet when the scroll bar(s) goes way beyond your data. You can also press Ctrl+End on a sheet to go to the bottom right most cell (the end of your used range) and if you go way beyond your actual data, you have excess cells.

Excess cells is a PER SHEET problem. you could have 250 sheets and sheet 249 could have all of the excess cells and the others could be fine. Alternatively you could have 10 extra rows on each of the 250 sheets, etc.

Correcting this is a manual process of finding your actual last row/column on a sheet and deleting everything below/right of it to clear out the excess, then save (sometimes close/reopen too). Repeating the Ctrl+end should correctly take you to the bottom of your actual data after.

The print area, if set automatically while having excess cells will need to be cleared and reset after cleaning up the excess content. You could solve your print woes by doing just the print areas, but it wont solve the underlying issue.

So if I am correct in what I think the issue to be (without any samples, screenshots, etc) then there is no easy/quick way to do this.

Might not be that much work.

Here's a macro I tucked away for future reference, you can try on a copy of your workbook.

ZeroCool, Thanks for the detailed analysis and instructions. Your method does work. I am changing the orientation to landscape and adding the tab content as a header while I am at it. It is tons of work though and I'm doing a small number at a time.
