TRIM function or IF Statement need assistance

Hi Experts needs some help, please also see workbook attached.

I have Two drop downs come from two different data sources from helper tab. So I think to make this easier I want 1 drop down for date and name on the far left. Then I want the drop down for date and name on the right to be an IF statement or V-lookup with TRIM function that can go into the helper column and search columns D and E and bring about the result as is in Column D and E. Please see my V-lookup as they come up as NA due to the formatting but a TRIM or IF statement might work or maybe even a vlookup with a wild card?

Also I cannot change the formatting in this scenario , so yes they are different if you compare columns A and B and D and E in the helper Column but they must remain as such.

    Thank you greatly!

Although I don't fully understand what it is you're trying to achieve here, the below formulas in G2 and H2 respectively will give results.

Hi Badly, nope you understood perfectly! you got it 100% I had a feeling it was a vlookup with a Trim, Wild card or maybe a Substitute, as these are at times related or interconnected in certain ways. So I knew roughly but still couldn't quite get it to work. But seems Substitute was the best for this issue! good stuff.

Amazing thank you very much! this solves my issue.
