    Format Fill Color in Workbook

Hello is it possible to format different ranges of cells that are different in the worksheets to equal one parent cell that can be filled with a color of choosing?

For instance if I put color red in sheet 1 cell B2 reference that cell to fill range C3:G3 sheet 2 and E9:S9 on sheet 3.

Thank you for any help or suggestions

I am not sure I follow 100%. Sounds like your asking 2 different things regarding referencing the contents of others cells and cell fill colors.

Can you provide a sample file with a before and after, what you have and what you want to have?

Re: Format Fill Color in Workbook

I want to make a table of colors on the first worksheet that will change colors of fill throughout the workbook. Kind of like a theme in a sense.

One color for Headings, another for sub headings and so on. Sorry for not being clear and I do appreciate the advice.

There is no built-in feature to do this but it can be done with macros. If you want to use macros to solve this, attach a file that shows what you are trying to do and I can help.

Re: Format Fill Color in Workbook

I hope it's okay to borrow a workbook that was posted on this forum. If I violated a rule I'm sorry.

Anyway I added a worksheet 'Switchboard' to the Attendance Tracker workbook.

It shows a start of what I want to do. I know all the ranges aren't listed yet but if it can be started I can try to figure out how to do the rest.

    Thank you very much

Re: Format Fill Color in Workbook

Why not just alter the actual styles and apply desired styles to cells? This presumes that a fill color is statically applied and doesnt need to dynamically change. IE: you mentioned a headings, so you set one of the actual style headings to the format you want and apply that style to your headings.

Alternatively, you can accomplish something like this using conditional formats possibly. That presumes the coloring of ranges isn't arbitrary but follows a pattern and needs to change dynamically based on some conditions.

Otherwise, if you cannot use the 2 above solutions a macro is the only thing that will accomplish this. If you get to that point Id ask if the effort justifies the goal?

Conditional formatting is okay I just don't know how to apply to more than one range.

Re: Format Fill Color in Workbook

Could you provide a simplified sample of what you have and what you want? Maybe a sheet with your switchboard and a 2nd sheet with colors applied manually to some dummy data to represent your layout?

I get the switchboard sheet, but can you give us an idea of what it needs to be applied to? Are we applying it to a consistent structure (like headings, sub headings, etc) or is there some condition we can follow (ie: cells = "Mike" are yelllow)?

If its more along the lines of "I want A1:A10 to have a yellow fill because thats how I feel right now, and if my mood changes later it will be blue/green/red, etc" then conditional formats wont be the answer.
