    Formulating a new date

Please forgive my ignorance before I ask my question. On my excel document, in one cell I have the date a patient comes in. In another cell, I have the patients age. The issue I'm having, in the next cell, I need a formula to add the current date of appointment, if the patient is a certain age, then calculate the next date of the appointment.

    Example:
    Date AGE Next Visit Date

02/02/2018 1 (0-1 yrs old add 3 months to first cell to = next visit) ?

2 (2-4 yrs old add 4 months to first cell to = next visit) ?

5 (5-7 yrs old add 5 months to first cell to = next visit) ?

I hope someone can help me or even understand my madness is explaining this.

    Thank you.

    Re: Formulating a new date

    Hi, welcome to the forum

What you need to understand about dates and times in excel is…

a date is just a number representing the number of days passed since 1/1/900...and then formatted in a way that we recognize as a date. So, for instance, today (Sat 03 Feb 2018) is actually 43134

Time is actually a decimal part of 1 (day), so 06:00 AM is 0.25, 12 noon is 0.5 and 18:00 (or 6 PM) is 0.75

So, having said that, you just need to do a test, based on age, then add the appropriate amount of days to the visit date. =EDATE(A1,3) will add 3 months, adjust the ,3 as needed
