Hi,
I am using Excel 2016 and windows 10. I found out that everytime I open a file, excel will also open a blank file with it. If I tried to close this blank file, it will close the file that I really want. My personal file is hidden so this blank file is not the personal file.
This means, if I open a lot of files to work with, I ended up having lots of blank files that I cannot close.
How can I stop this blank file from opening?
Off topic, but please update your forum profile to the version of Excel that you are now using - it says 2010 at the moment.
I have never seen this issue - my instinct tells me to ask if you have run a repair on the Office software?

Then I would try that and see if it solves the issue.
Check you XLSTART folders, any file in those folders is opened when you open Excel. The paths for the folders (there are multiple of them) can be found in Trust Center | Trusted Locations. If they have files in them copy them out and try out Excel.
If nothing in those then close Excel entirely. Open Task Manager and ensure there are no entries under processes called "Excel.exe". If so end them. Consider a reboot as well (of course having saved and closed your work prior).
Try opening Excel in safe mode. From start menu type "Excel.exe /safe" (without quotes). Note the widow in the top, middle of the title bar has something like (Safe Mode). Does the issue happen within safe mode? If it doesnt happen in safe mode then your personal workbook or an add-in is triggering the behavior. Copy your personal workbook from the default location to a place like your documents folder or desktop. Try opening XL normally, if its doesnt happen its your personal workbook, review its code. If it still happens after moving personal workbook, start deactivating addins in normal mode 1 by 1 (disable, close XL, reopen, test) until you no longer have the issue. This would help determine which add-in may be the culprit.
Does the issue happen 100% of the time you open ANY workbook? Does it happen when you do a new blank workbook? Does it happen with local files, files on a network share, etc?
Ways to get help: Post clear questions, explain your overall goal, supply as much background as possible, respond to questions asked of you by those trying to help and post sample(s) files.

I tried to follow the article. Most of the options listed were already in my excel.
