Slicer to filer by due date (EG Today, Tomorrow, This Week )

    Hi All,

    New to the Excel Forum!

I was hoping someone had a method of utilizing a slicer to filter a table using dynamic dates.

EXAMPLE: If I have a 2 line table, with column A being "project name" and column B being "due date", can I create a slicer that will filter by due date with the following style of buttons:

    Today
    Tomorrow
    This Week
    Next Week

    Bonus points!!!:

can I add a third column, column C: and put in a "complete" yes -or no. then add a "past due" to the slicer. if the due date has come and gone, and the complete column <>"YES", and "past due" is selected in the slicer.. you get the idea!

    thanks all.

Hi Ampedanarchist and welcome to the forum,

Instead of using a Slicer to filter your data, you should use the AutoFilter dropdown on the Due Date column. It has all those things you want. You could add a third column and use it to sort/filter also using the AutoFilter dropdowns. The Slicer tool isn't yet smart enough to do what you want. Maybe with a software update??

Thanks Marvin! I was hoping to make the most "user friendly" interface for non-tech oriented peers. Is there any alternative method of applying a filter like =Today() to a table that is clean and easy?

I think the dropdown on the Due Date is about as easy as they get.

I've tried to make things real easy for people by inventing my own user interface many times. It always turns out to be a VBA coding nightmare and then it doesn't allow the user to get used to the Excel interfaces. I wrote code to do the Slicer Tool before it came out. Took me weeks to fudge that guy to work like I wanted. It looked very similar to the now Slicer.
