Adjust cell height with wrap text from one particular column

    Hi,

I got a spreadsheet with multiple columns with wrapped text.
I want to adjust the height of some rows but using the text in one particular column, ignoring the rest of the columns.

There are many rows, so not practical to do it manually.

Autofit seems to use the text in all columns, even if I hide or group them.

    Any way of doing this?

    Thanks,
    I

    Welcome to the forum SAI2

This is easy but you may have to go through a bit of pain first
    - this is default Excel behaviour (until user does something that Excel refuses to forget )

    Demo:
    - In the attached workbook entire Columns D:G are set to WrapText
    - Select each column one at a time, switch off WrapText - all related row heights revert to standard
    - User can switch back and forth indefinitely between WrapText on and off
    - That is exactly what you are asking for

    No pain no gain
    - The above works because the sheet is unadulterated
    - You may need to go back to a clean sheet and paste in values (and specific display formats) from your old sheet without setting any auto-fits or row heights
    - do not meddle with row heights anywhere in a "pertinent" row again (ever!)
    - any other rows can be adjusted

Re: Adjust cell height with wrap text from one particular column

Hi, thanks for reply, in fact I oversimplified my problem and probably this was not a good idea.

I have a spreadsheet with a few columns with numbers and a comments column at the right end (which would be B below. we don't delete previous months' comments, we add the new comment on top as shown below.

    Capture2.JPG

I have added an extra column that extracts this month's comment and would like to adjust height based on this one.
Then I hide it since my bosses want to see the column with all the comments only.
When they open the file they want to have all comments there, and when they print, they want to see this month comment only (or normal row height when no comments for the month)

I have solved it with a macro (below)

Just wondering if there was an easier way to do this that did not involve macros.

    Regards,
    I
