    Autofill date does not work

    I have a column of dates: 7/1/2016 7/2/2016 7/3/2016 7/4/2016 and so on.

I want to interpolate the series to get 7/5/2016 using the fill handle

Instead it keeps repeating 7/1/2016 7/2/2016 7/3/2016 7/4/2016 over and over again

I've checked the date formatting and nothing wrong there. Also I looked at the autofill options and there were no date options there either

Why is the autofill not working and how do I fix this?

Re: Autofill date does not work

If I select just a single cell with the date and drag down the dates increment by one day each cell.

What happens if you just grab the bottom cell and drag down not all of them?

If I just do that with one cell it increments the year instead. 7/7/2016 7/7/2017 7/7/2018 ...

Re: Autofill date does not work

Ok I figured out it has something to do with my system date settings. My system uses the format d/m/yyyy but my data uses m/d/yyyy

So my source data is still treated as d/m/yyyy while the presentation is m/d/yyyy

When I press Enter on every single cell, Excel reinterprets the source data.

How do I tell Excel to treat the source data as m/d/yyyy? I don't want to change the source data to fit my system settings

I also do not want to change my system settings

    Any solutions?

Re: URGENT - Autofill date does not work

Your data is entered as text instead of dates. You must convert it to date values first. I could guess and speculate but the best way to get help on this is to attach your file.

The paper clip icon does not work for attachments. Instead, under the text box where you type your reply click the Go Advanced button. On the next screen scroll down and click on Manage Attachments, which will show a pop-up window to Select and Upload a file. Then close the window.

Re: URGENT - Autofill date does not work

This is the raw date text i received. My system settings are d/m/yyyy but the text data is in m/d/yyyy

When I press Enter on each cell, Excel interprets it 7/1/2016 as 7 January 2016. I want it to interpret it as July 1 2016.

i.e. in native format it is 1/7/2016 but it is presented as 7/1/2016

    See attached file.

Re: Autofill date does not work

    See if the following helps.
    1) Select the range A2:A33
    2) On the data tab select Text to Columns
    3) Select Next
    4) Select Next again
    5) Select Date and MDY (from drop down)
    6) Select Finish
Now when you drag the fill handle from A9 to A10, A10 should display July 8th, 2016.
