Protecting a cell from any manual capturing, while allowing selection from drop down list

    Hi,

I want to protect users from manually inputting information on a cell but allow them to use a drop down list to select information.

    Thank you

When you set up a data validation list (Data ribbon) Excel automatically sets it such that only items on that list can be entered. It will throw up an error message if you try to add anything that isn't.

    hi Ali,

You right, but should they type anything that is in the list excel will allow.
my challenge is that I want the data exactly as in the list e.g if I have pH in the list and they type ph excel will allow.
in short the information is later imported to a software that is case sensitive for further analysis.

    regards

In that case, you might need to use VBA.
