"Chart created in Excel 2013 is now showing data label values when opening in Excel 2010"

    Hello everybody,

    1) I created a customized column chart in Excel (A->G/57->83): The data labels show "Name" "%fraction" "(absolute share)"

    2) The data of this chart is in the same excel sheet - but "far away" from the chart (AG->AV/444->454)

    3) The chart is connected with the data by the "Value from cells" option: If you "right click2 on one of the data labels of the chart -> Click "Format data labels" -> Go to the "Label options" -> The box "Value From Cells" is ticked and the data label range (AG->AV/444->454) is selected)

    NOW THE PROBLEM:

Everything works well in Excel 2013 (where I created the chart)

HOWEVER, if you open the file on a device with Excel 2010, the chart does not show any values (I think the reason for this problem is that the "Value from cells" option is not available in Excel 2010, but correct me if this assumption is wrong). So do you have any suggestion how to fix this problem in the Excel 2013 version, so that it will be compatible with Excel 2010.

Thanks a lot for your help in advance, I really appreciate it because I don't really know what I can do to solve this problem.

    Best regards

You assumption is correct. data labels linked to cells is not in xl2010. You should see [Value] instead, if I remember correctly.

You can link data labels to cells, you would need to click each data label in turn an in the formula bar enter the cell address.
To make it easier there is a free addin

If your data labels are also displaying other information, series/category/data value etc, you will need to included that information in the cells you link to as you can not combine items like you can in newer versions.
