    Inserting Symbols and Inserting Symbols with Keyboard Shortcut Don't Return Same Character

    Inserting Symbols and Inserting Symbols with Keyboard Shortcut Don't Return Same Character. How to fix it?

    Let's say I want to insert a symbol which is;

    Font : Bookman Old Style
    Unicode Name : Black Up-Pointing Triangle
    Character Code : 25B2

    Method 1 - Inserting Symbols (Insert - Symbol)

    I select all on the sheet then select font at "Home - Font - Bookman Old Style"

    I select a cell.

    I go "Insert - Symbol - Font - Bookman Old Style"

    Then choose the symbol which is;

    Font : Bookman Old Style
    Unicode Name : Black Up-Pointing Triangle
    Character Code : 25B2

    Insert. The returning character is black up-pointing triangle.

    Method 2 - Inserting Symbols with Character Code

    Now I want to insert same character with the keyboard shortcut.

    The character code is 25b2.

    I select a cell.

    I press "alt" and type 25b2 on numeric keyboard part keys.

    and a different character (black smiling face) is inserted.

    Why the two is different? How to fix that?

    Thanks

    Char code is not same as alt code.

    For ▲, use alt + 30

    Edit: Alternately you can use UNICHAR formula.

    So at "Insert - Symbols" section there are "char codes"

    How to know "alt code" of a character?

    Not all characters have an "alt code". When I want to know if a character has an alt code, I use the Windows Character Map application (assuming you are using Windows). In my version of Windows (7), the lower left of the Character Map window shows the unicode number for a selected character (in hexadecimal), and the lower right shows the "keystroke" alt code (if applicable).

    This is a quick run down on the windows character map application. Using the example of the © symbol, they show how to copy the symbol, and how to see the keystroke alt-code for this symbol. http://www.dummies.com/computers/ope...character-map/

    What's the use of character codes if they are not used in short cut keys?

    It's binary representation of character, used mostly in programming.
