    Hi Navi_G. Welcome to the forum.

    To clearly illustrate a question it is best to attach a sample Excel workbook.You often get more and faster response it you do.

    To attach a file to your post: (Please no pics or screenshots ... saves retyping data.),
    • be sure to desensitize the data
    • click “Go Advanced” (next to Post Quick Reply – bottom right),
    • scroll down until you see “Manage Attachments”, click that,
    • click “Browse”.
    • select your file(s)
    • click “Upload”
    • click “Close window”
    • click “Submit Reply”

    The file name will appear at the bottom of your reply.

    Re: Vlookup with max and min function

    Will you please attach a sample Excel workbook? We are not able to work with or manipulate a picture of one and nobody wants to have to recreate your data from scratch.

    1. Make sure that your sample data are REPRESENTATIVE of your real data. The use of unrepresentative data is very frustrating and can lead to long delays in reaching a solution.

    2. Make sure that your desired results are also shown (mock up the results manually).

    3. Make sure that all confidential data is removed or replaced with dummy data first (e.g. names, addresses, E-mails, etc.).

    4. Try to avoid using merged cells as they cause lots of problems.

    Unfortunately the attachment icon doesn't work at the moment, so to attach an Excel file you have to do the following: just before posting, scroll down to Go Advanced and then scroll down to Manage Attachments. Now follow the instructions at the top of that screen.

    Please pay particular attention to point 2 (above): without an idea of your intended outcomes, it is often very difficult to offer appropriate advice.

    Sorry - I meant that you should provide a better sample workbook that is more representative of your real data.

    Re: Vlookup with max and min function

    Based on your sample file from post #4, I will demonstrate how to get 1 set of each if the info you want. You should be able to modify my suggestions to get the rest.

    Max marks for each subject for top 3 students...
    score =LARGE(C$2:C$14,1)
    Name =INDEX($B$2:$B$14,MATCH(LARGE(C$2:C$14,1),C$2:C$14,0))
    change the ,1 (bolded) to ,2 and ,3 for 2nd and 3rd place

    Min marks for each subject for bottom 3 students...
    score =small(C$2:C$14,1)
    Name =INDEX($B$2:$B$14,MATCH(small(C$2:C$14,1),C$2:C$14,0))
    again, change the ,1 to ,2 and ,3 for 2nd and 3rd place

    Repeat these for each subject and for the Top 3

    Not sure what "down 3 students" means?

    For less than 33 marks, use this ARRAY formula...
    =INDEX($B$2:$B$14,MATCH(SMALL(IF(C$2:C$14<=33,C$2:C$14),1),C$2:C$14,0))
    ...confirmed by pressing CTRL+SHIFT+ENTER to activate the array, not just ENTER. You will know the array is active when you see curly braces { } appear around your formula. If you do not CTRL+SHIFT+ENTER you will get an error or a clearly incorrect answer.
    Again, change the ,1 to ,2 etc

    For >80, use the same as less 33...
    =INDEX($B$2:$B$14,MATCH(large(IF(C$2:C$14>=80,C$2:C$14),1),C$2:C$14,0))
