Issue translating table data to column format with firm + year = datapoint

    Hi All,

First post here. I have a variable I am using for research which is a % point in a given year for a firm. The results I have managed to extract from my database can be found i the picture below. Now, I am having trouble figuring out how to transform the results in the table into the example posted in the other picture, that would be the end result I am aiming for. There must be a combination of formulas to do this, but my attempts so far have been without success.

Anyone have an idea on how to tackle this?

    Best,

    Jody

Hi, welcome to the forum, Jody

To best describe or illustrate your problem you would be better off attaching a dummy workbook. The workbook should contain the same structure and some dummy data of the same type as the type you have in your real workbook - so, if a cell contains numbers & letters in this format abc-123 then that should be reflected in the dummy workbook.

To attach a file to your post,
click advanced (next to quick post),
scroll down until you see "manage file",
click that and select "add files" (top right corner).
click "select files" find your file, click "open" click "upload" click 'done" bottom right. click "submit reply"

Once the upload is completed the file name will appear below the input boxes in this window.
You can then close the window to return to the new post screen.

Any code you could share with me on how you did this? I have been trying with power query but haven't managed to figure it out.

Did you not look at the files Sandy provided? Go to the Data ribbon and click on Quieries & Connections - in the section to the right of your workspace, double click the query to see how it was done.
