PowerPivot Assistance

Hi All,

I have recently purchased office 365 and now have power pivot installed on my machine.

I was hoping to learn more about it but it seems to be difficult to get hold of any data in excel format for me to learn (either you need to get it from a SQL server or its stored in PowerBI)

Anyone have suggestions on the best way to do this?

1. update your profile about Excel version
2. Power Pivot in Microsoft Excel
3. Data Analysis Expressions (DAX) Reference (PowerPivot)
4. PowerBI is a closed format - you can import data into PBI but after that you can do nothing with Excel (to me PBI is useless in this case)

1. You can get data from US census, or from github. Github has several repository that you can grab data from and play with. See link for an example.

2. PowerBI dataset - You can use R script within PowerBI's Query Editor to export data as csv file. This could be done from PowerBI Desktop. Of course, you'll need R environment set up on your machine and will need to enable R script on your PowerBI Desktop first.

WHO and other organization's web site has some interesting data you can play with as well.

Thanks, I have tried the microsoft site where there is a link to download the Contonso V2 data.
However, the link seems to be 'dead'.

In awhile will be: Data Dictionary of Contoso BI demo dataset for Retail Industry (MSSQL as MSSQL.BAK) but I need to load it to the server first
