I am working on a project where I have a bunch of water samples of various lakes over a long period of time. I have a separate file that has information about all these lakes, including the latitude and longitude of each. I want to be able to enter into the row of each sample the lat/lon of the lake it was taken from, but the sample file is very large and I don't have the time to do each one by hand. Is there a faster way to do this?

You could import the "lake" data into your workbook in a new sheet.
Use a VLOOKUP function to fill up the lan and lon values for each row
copy the values found by the function and paste them as values in the same cells
