    Corrupted Excel file

Hello I had an old excel file on my usb, and I tried to access it today, but i keep getting an error " The file is corrupt and cannot be opened", is there a way to fix this or have I lost the file and the data within it for good?

    Thank you

This kind of thing often happens when USB drives are removed without going through the safe removal process. Files corrupted in this way are typically unrecoverable by any means.

Hmm, sigh. I think i will keep a cloud backup going into the future. Hopefully those are more safer from corrupting ? Thanks for your comment.

    Re: Corrupted Excel file

You need to have a rigorous approach to backing up. I have my system set up to back up once a day to an external hard drive at home and to the cloud. Using something like DropBox or OneDrive is fantastic if you want access to your files from different machines, but you still need to think about making incremental copies of important files (e.g. by saving them under a new name each time you work on them - I tend to use a date and/or version number in my file names).

    Hope this helps!

Dropbox and OneDrive also have a time limited version history for the files.

Yes, and so does LiveDrive, which is another option.
